The Hurricane is the result of 2 years of R&D. A series of computer designed and machined prototypes were tested. The goal was to design a versatile hull that performs well in a variety of conditions. By defining the hull shapes parametrically each successive prototype could be refined quickly and precisely.
The results justify the effort. The Hurricane is smooth in flat water and responsive in the bumps. Component parts for the Hurricane were also developed using CAD.
The molds for the iakos, footpedals, and rudders, as well as the hull and deck masters, were CNC milled. The Hurricane is constructed using the best materials and processes available. Carbon fiber is used extensively throughout the canoe. OZone uses specially formulated oven cure epoxies, polyurethane paints, and prepregs to make one of the lightest canoes on the market.
